The ninth symbol is a check number calculated via an algorithm of all the other digits in the VIN. The seventh digit can be a “1” to indicate that it’s the first version of the bike in question. The next two characters stand for the model version the model variation. For off-roaders, the starting digit will be an “S” while bikes classified in the single-cylinder sport-street group will begin with an “N”.
